Where Did the Summer Go

Where did the summer go
We’re heading back to school
I miss the warmth already
As the nights are getting cool

I want those long days in the sunshine
I want the afternoons at the beach
The warm nights that last forever
Lighting bugs flashing out of reach

I want iced tea in a frosted glass
BBQ chicken and mac and cheese
Fireworks so close you can touch them
I want a sunburn, even, please–

I want picnics with the family
I want to taste a summer rain
I want to hug the skies forever
I want to come back home again

Life happens. Did not get a chance to get this posted on Monday. I hope everyone has a great week!

The Road Home

in my mind, i fly
long grass on both sides
the black and white cows are silent
they are decor to this
one woman band
barreling her way
over this hill, this curve and the next
until everything within
vibrates
the silos, the grass covered hill,
those trees
that sunlight highlighting
the puffy white clouds
behind the blue
until everything feels too full

Entourage

having two dogs
is like
having a furry entourage

they will follow you
everywhere

except
it’s less about your support

or being an escort
and more like

how much
they need you desperately

The Beauty of Fall

Trees starting to show their color in a field next to my house. Hopefully we will get some sunny days soon…

Although, I hate the cold weather, I sometimes forget how lucky I am to live in area where I get to witness the changing of the seasons.

To see the beauty of fall: the robust reds, the bright, yellow-greens and oranges of all different shades; light orange, red-orange and some the color of grapefruit.

Bright yellow trees on the corner next to my house.

The smell of the crisp, cool air, the wind that’s got a bite to it; the smell of wood smoke, a hint of sweet, tart ripe apples. Yeah, this is fall, my fall, and I realize I appreciate it a bit more this year than I ever have before.

I don’t know, maybe I’m getting old…Maybe I’m finally realizing that although new places are fun and exciting to see…sometimes, nothing can beat the comfort of home!

Colorful trees in the field behind my house.
