we hear rustling
the sound only a bag can make
that belongs to chips
or cheesy goodness
he rolls over
head on my lap
and strains his face and nose
towards the sound
another rustle
eyes wide
I can see his bear face thinking
is this a snack worth leaving
the warmth of bed
and then a few minutes pass
and I see his eyes droop
apparently there are other snacks
better than a nap
to this gray nose
nature
flying south
the geese are flying
i watch them pass overhead
they’re heading south for winter
to be somewhere warm instead
i hear them before i see them
honking in the cloud-filled sky
the snap of the air tells them
its that time of the year to fly
my dog Koda woos and barks
when he hears them flying low
they’re heading someplace new now
i look up and watch them go

I accidentally went MIA again…just been busy at work. Everything is just exhausting lately.

shark week
in the silent
inky darkness
something surges
from the deep
predator
turned prey

Where Did the Summer Go
Where did the summer go
We’re heading back to school
I miss the warmth already
As the nights are getting cool
I want those long days in the sunshine
I want the afternoons at the beach
The warm nights that last forever
Lighting bugs flashing out of reach
I want iced tea in a frosted glass
BBQ chicken and mac and cheese
Fireworks so close you can touch them
I want a sunburn, even, please–
I want picnics with the family
I want to taste a summer rain
I want to hug the skies forever
I want to come back home again
Life happens. Did not get a chance to get this posted on Monday. I hope everyone has a great week!

End of Summer
at some point
you wonder
what happened to Summer
the greenery is draped
like a nap you’ve grown tired of
Haiku: Summer on Campus
sounds of construction
float across empty side-walks
chaos building peace

Campfire
how can something
so dangerous
be so comfortable
it’s like using a hug
to strangle someone
a chef’s knife
slides through kidneys, too
and every silver rain storm
that brings life
can take it away
these are the opposites
to life’s balances
the Yin and the Yang
nature just isn’t beautiful
she is red hot and smoldering
Goodbye June
it’s the last performance
flashes of summer
glitter like starlight
we’ve come to see the show
the night air
jitters with excitement
that one twirls
that one sparkles
memories burst apart around me
like the end of a song
blink, blink, blink, blink
and then they’re gone
Gold star for anyone who can guess what this poem is about. 😉 It’s one of my favorite things about summer. I really hate to say goodbye to June.
