I bought a poetry book
about dogs
and all it did
was remind me
how short their lives are
we’ll have several dogs
in our lifetimes
they’ll have several years
if we’re lucky
and it reminded me
we don’t have dogs
do we
they have you

This was great! I love dogs, and you are so right! They love us unconditionally. We had two older dogs who died a week apart. I cried for months. Years later, if I think too hard about them, I can still become a blubbering mess. Dogs have such big personalities.
